IHG Mental Health – Sustainable Development Goals

(SDG) Pledge Document, Formal Commitment to the United Nations 2030 Agenda

1. Introduction

International Hospitals Group (IHG) is a global healthcare organisation with more than 50 years of experience delivering highquality healthcare solutions across 58 countries, partnering with governments, ministries of health, international agencies, and private organisations. Our mission — to improve healthcare standards worldwide — places us in a unique position to contribute meaningfully to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This SDG Pledge Document outlines IHG’s commitment to the UN 2030 Agenda, the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, and our alignment with all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. It sets out our priorities, our responsibilities, and the actions we will take to support sustainable development through our global healthcare operations.

International Hospitals Group is working towards Sustainable Development Goals outlined by the U.N.

2. Our Commitment to the UN Global Impact

IHG pledges to uphold and embed the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact across our organisation, supply chains, and partnerships. We commit to:

  • Human Rights: Protecting the dignity, safety, and wellbeing of all individuals we employ or serve.
  • Labour: Ensuring fair, ethical, and inclusive employment practices.
  • Environment: Reducing our environmental footprint and promoting sustainable operations.
  • Anti‑Corruption: Maintaining transparent, accountable, and ethical governance in all jurisdictions.

These principles guide our decision‑making, our project delivery, and our relationships with partners worldwide.

3. Our Commitment to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals

IHG recognises the importance of the full SDG framework and formally pledges to contribute to all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. As a global healthcare organisation operating across diverse regions and health systems, we understand that sustainable development requires a holistic, integrated approach.

Following a materiality assessment aligned to our mission, values, and operational footprint, IHG has identified seven SDGs as strategically material to our work. These goals reflect our core strengths in healthcare delivery, global partnerships, sustainable infrastructure, and responsible operations.

Material SDGs for IHG

  • – SDG 1 – No Poverty
  • – SDG 2 – Zero Hunger
  • – SDG 3 – Good Health & Wellbeing
  • – SDG 5 – Gender Equality
  • – SDG 6 – Clean Water & Sanitation
  • – SDG 16 – Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions
  • – SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

These SDGs directly align with IHG’s global healthcare projects, our commitment to British‑standards quality, and our responsibility to deliver safe, sustainable, and equitable healthcare solutions. They represent the areas where IHG can make the most meaningful and measurable impact.

Supporting SDGs

IHG also commits to proportionate, realistic contributions to the remaining SDGs. Through responsible operations, strong governance, ethical supply chains, and community‑focused practices, we will ensure that our work supports the broader 2030 Agenda across all regions in which we operate.

4. Our SDG Pledge

4.1 Deliver high‑quality healthcare solutions that advance global wellbeing (SDG 3)

IHG strengthens global health systems by designing, building, equipping, and operating healthcare facilities that improve access, quality, safety, and outcomes. This includes expanding service capacity, embedding early‑intervention models, and accelerating digital transformation to enhance resilience and continuity of care.

4.2 Promote fair, safe, and ethical employment (SDG 1, SDG 5)

IHG ensures decent work, fair pay, safe staffing, and strong wellbeing support for all employees. Ethical recruitment, equal opportunity, and inclusive leadership pathways are embedded across all global operations.

4.3 Reduce inequalities in access to healthcare (SDG 1, SDG 10, SDG 5)

IHG delivers culturally sensitive, multilingual, and inclusive services that reach underserved populations. Projects prioritise equitable access in low‑resource settings, addressing structural inequalities that limit health outcomes.

4.4 Operate sustainably and responsibly (SDG 6, SDG 12, SDG 13)

IHG reduces waste, minimises plastic use, protects biodiversity, and promotes sustainable procurement. Environmental responsibility is embedded into facility design, supply chain management, and operational processes, ensuring safe water, sanitation, and climate‑resilient infrastructure.

4.5 Strengthen global partnerships (SDG 17)

IHG collaborates with governments, NGOs, academic institutions, and international agencies to deliver sustainable healthcare solutions. Partnerships underpin IHG’s global mission and enable long‑term, scalable impact.

4.6 Uphold strong governance and ethical practice (SDG 16)

IHG maintains transparent, accountable, and corruption‑free operations across all jurisdictions. Governance frameworks ensure compliance, integrity, safeguarding, and responsible decision‑making throughout the organisation and its supply chains.

4.7 Support global development through responsible operations (SDGs 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13)

IHG recognises that sustainable development extends beyond healthcare delivery. As a global organisation, IHG ensures its wider operational footprint contributes positively to social, economic, and environmental progress.

4.7.1 Ethical and socially responsible operations (SDGs 1 & 2)

IHG contributes to poverty reduction and improved wellbeing through fair remuneration, ethical employment practices, and responsible procurement. Healthcare environments promote food security, reduce waste, and uphold healthy nutrition standards.

4.7.2 Strengthening education, skills, and workforce capability (SDG 4)

IHG invests in training, capacity‑building, and knowledge transfer programmes that empower local healthcare workforces. Skills development, clinical training, and leadership pathways strengthen national health systems and support long‑term sustainability.

4.7.3 Advancing gender equality and inclusive participation (SDG 5)

IHG promotes gender equity across its workforce and leadership structures, ensuring equal access to opportunities, fair treatment, and a safe working environment. Global partnerships champion inclusive healthcare access for women and girls.

4.7.4 Ensuring safe water, sanitation, and hygiene in all healthcare environments (SDG 6)

IHG upholds WHO‑aligned WASH standards across all facilities. Safe water, sanitation, and infection‑control systems are embedded into project frameworks, engineering design, and quality assurance processes.

4.7.5 Supporting the transition to clean and efficient energy (SDG 7)

IHG improves energy efficiency across operations and promotes clean, renewable energy solutions in healthcare infrastructure. Low‑carbon technologies and energy‑efficient systems are prioritised in design and engineering standards.

4.7.6 Driving innovation and sustainable healthcare infrastructure (SDG 9)

IHG delivers modern, resilient, and digitally enabled healthcare infrastructure aligned with international standards. Innovation in clinical design, digital health, telemedicine, and sustainable construction strengthens long‑term system resilience.

4.7.7 Strengthening community resilience and local health ecosystems (SDG 11)

IHG supports sustainable, inclusive, and resilient communities by integrating healthcare services into broader community systems. This enhances local capacity, improves access to essential services, and promotes long‑term wellbeing.

4.7.8 Addressing climate change and building climate‑resilient health systems (SDG 13)

IHG reduces its carbon footprint, assesses climate‑related risks, and designs healthcare facilities that are resilient to environmental change. Climate‑conscious decision‑making is embedded across operations and project delivery.
